More About Our QUAILS

Button Quail quickly became an enjoyable passion project! They are very small & fragile at birth and can literally fit on a large button. They are fuzzy little chicks resembling those extra large bumble bees that visit many gardens. As full grown birds they are about the size of a hamster, but don’t let their small size fool you! They are vibrant in colour and patterns (not to mention their quirky personalities) The hens lay small but protein rich eggs on a fairly regular basis if cared for well during their life 3-5 year life span.

Having caught the quail bug, we began coop preparations to be able to welcome some coturnix  quails.  We’ve taken an interest in specialty colourations within the species & those that lay coloured eggs to add more visual interest to meal prep!

Our quail chicks are handled daily to get them used to us, making it easier as they get older for health checks, treatment if needed and maneuvering during enclosure cleanings or when collecting eggs. We aim to make every interaction positive despite their nature of being easily spooked/flighty.  We raise them on a specialized high protein diet with added calcium, omega and supplements to ensure they remain healthy. Like our plan with the dogs in our life, we ensure our quails are enriched in their daily routines with dust baths, foraging sessions and species appropriate treats.  Being that we are careful about what goes into our quails, we can be confident on the quality of the eggs they are producing.

We use these eggs to produce our High QUAILity Powder meal topper. The idea of the powder form allows pets to get the benefit of the eggs in an alternate texture. Some dogs (or cats) may not love the texture or whole eggs/yolks, not everyone has extra room for eggs in the fridge to freezer just for their pets, when travelling with the dogs they don’t have to miss out on the benefits of their daily dose! The powder is made from WHOLE QUAIL EGGS - the shell itself contains calcium that is beneficial to our pets which is why they are included.  The dehydration process maintains the health  benefits of the egg in tact and remains shelf stable for longer than eggs would  be kept in the fridge.

So why should you work quail eggs into your dogs daily meals?

Where should we start…

♥ Rich in protein  (approx 1g/egg) which aid in the care of muscles & bones and they provide energy

♥ Beneficial fatty acids and help to balance cholesterol

♥ Boost immunity & improve vision being a good source of  Vitamin A

♥ Alternate to chicken eggs for those pets with allergies

♥ Increase energy especially when paired with a carbohydrate source

♥ As a source of Vitamin B they also support overall health & boost the metabolism

♥ Promote brain health

♥ Lower in carbohydrates they are a filling snack that could be offered to help with weight control

Button Quail

Celadon Gene Quail

Button Quail

Our tiniest members… they are able to fit on a loonie when they are born and resemble little fuzzy bumble bees. They come in a wide variety of colours and patterns. They are entertaining with fun quirky personalities. Their protein packed eggs have us thinking … maybe they are the Cadbury Mini Eggs for dogs - they’re the same snack size & come in various colours.

Black Quail

Celadon Gene Quail

Button Quail

These quail lay eggs similar to coturnix, but to the trained eye tend have a slightly tighter pattern to them. All chicks that are born from this line are black in colour, thought they may have some white markings. Their feet are typically black, but pink toes are commonly seen (normal)

These quail look like standard coturnix quail, but they lay blue eggs. The blue colour of the eggs can range in the shade /intensity of the colour & can have some patterning to them.

We feel these pretty eggs can add visual interest to your dogs bowl!
